West Monroe, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) set the stage for three crucial public hearings in early January 2024. The aim of these gatherings: to collect insights and perspectives from the public on a Notice of Intent (NOI) for the black bear hunting season--an approval received by LDWF back in November, 2023 from Louisiana's Commission on Wildlife Management; thus illustrating an engagement with environmental issues that profoundly affect our ecosystem.

Mark these dates on your calendar:

  • January 16, 6 p.m.
    • LSU Ag Center, 4531 LA-605, St Joseph, LA 71366
  • January 18, 6 p.m.
    • West Monroe Convention Center, 901 Ridge Ave, West Monroe, LA 71291
  • January 23, 6 p.m.
    • Black Bear Golf Course Conference Center, 253 Black Bear Dr, Delhi, LA 71232

The proposed regulations governing the upcoming black bear hunting season hinge on the NOI, serving as a blueprint. LDWF acknowledges and prioritizes community engagement; they hold their input in high regard for shaping these crucial norms.

Feel free to connect with John Hanks, the Large Carnivore Program Manager at LDWF - jhanks@wlf.la.gov or (318) 343-8325; he will welcome your comments until February 5 at 4 pm. Should you wish for an avenue to express thoughts: seek clarifications and access further details about the NOI – this is it!
