  • Public Fishing Lakes Daily License: Instead of a regular license, fish for 1 day at WFF Division-owned Public Fishing Lakes. Not valid in other locations. Fee: $7.30.

  • Physically Disabled Freshwater Fishing 3-Day Event License: Allows up to 20 disabled persons and an assistant to fish at a sanctioned event. Additional participants cost $5.00 each. Fee: $100.00.

  • Disabled Fishing License: Freshwater Annual (totally disabled): Requires proof of permanent disability benefit. Includes Wildlife Heritage License privileges. Fee: $3.40. Saltwater Annual (totally disabled): Requires proof of permanent disability benefit. Fee: $3.40. Veterans Appreciation (20% disabled): Requires certification of 20% or more disability by U.S. Veterans Administration. Freshwater Fee: $3.50. Saltwater Fee: $3.50.

  • Freshwater Commercial Fishing License Annual: Required for using commercial gear. Valid from 10/1/23 to 9/30/24. Proof of 12-month residency needed. Fee: $119.00.

  • Retail Freshwater Fish Dealer: Required to sell fish directly to consumers. Valid from 10/1/23 to 9/30/24. Fee: $13.00.

  • Wholesale Freshwater Fish Dealer: Required to sell fish for resale. Valid from 10/1/23 to 9/30/24. Fee: $31.00.

  • Freshwater Mussel License Catcher: Required for catching mussels. Valid from 10/1/23 to 9/30/24. Proof of 12-month residency needed. Fee: $301.00.

  • Dealer or Buyer: Required for dealing or buying mussels. Valid from 10/1/23 to 9/30/24. Proof of 12-month residency needed. Fee: $121.00.

  • Spear Fishing License Annual: Allows spearfishing in both fresh and saltwater. Requires appropriate sportfishing license. Fee: $6.00.

Additional Notes:

  • Residents aged 64 and over buying hunting or fishing licenses get lifetime licenses.
  • When saltwater fishing with artificial bait, fly, lure, gig, cast net, bow, crab trap (five or less), or spear, a saltwater fishing license is required.
  • Game fish can only be caught using hook and line, fly, troll, or spinner. Selling or buying game fish from public waters is prohibited by law in Alabama.
  • Residents aged 65 and over are exempt from purchasing freshwater and saltwater fishing licenses, hunting licenses, wildlife management area licenses, and state duck stamps. Saltwater anglers aged 65 and over must register annually in the Saltwater Angler Registry.

    • Physically Disabled Freshwater Fishing 3-Day Event License: Allows up to 20 physically disabled persons and their assistants to fish at a sanctioned event. $5.00 for each additional participant. Fee: $100.00.

    • Saltwater Trip: Fee: $100.00.
