  • Area: Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Rio Grande counties, parts of Archuleta, Hinsdale, Mineral, Saguache, and San Juan counties east of Continental Divide

  • Dates: October 28, 2023 - February 11, 2024

South Park Season

  • Area: Chaffee, Custer, Fremont, Lake, Park, and Teller counties

Early Canada Goose Season

  • Dates: September 1-9, annually
  • Area: West of Continental Divide

Western Zone Regular Season

  • First Segment: September 30 - October 8
  • Second Segment: November 6 - January 31, 2024
  • Area: West of Continental Divide excluding Eastern Zone

Eastern Zone Regular Season

  • Dates: September 30 - January 3, 2024
  • Area: Includes Routt, Grand, Summit, Eagle, and Pitkin counties; parts of Saguache, San Juan, Hinsdale, and Mineral counties west of Continental Divide; part of Gunnison County excluding North Fork of the Gunnison River Valley (GMUs 53, 63, and 521); part of Moffat County east of the northern intersection of CR 29 with the Moffat-Routt County line, south along CR 29 to the intersection with the line (encompassing Elkhead Reservoir State Park).

Northeast Zone Duck & Coot Season

  • First Segment Dates: October 14 - November 26
  • Second Segment Dates: December 11 - January 31, 2024
  • Area: East of Interstate 25 and north of Interstate 70

Southeast Zone Duck & Coot Season

  • Dates: October 28 - January 31, 2024
  • Area: East of Interstate 25 and south of Interstate 70, including all of El Paso, Pueblo, Huerfano, and Las Animas counties

Mountain/Foothills Zone Duck & Coot Season

  • First Segment Dates: September 30 - November 26
  • Second Segment Dates: December 25 - January 31, 2024
  • Area: West of Interstate 25 and east of the Continental Divide, excluding El Paso, Pueblo, Huerfano, and Las Animas counties

  • Area: West of the Continental Divide, excluding the Eastern Zone

Eastern Zone Duck & Coot Season

  • Dates: September 30 - January 12, 2024
  • Area: Includes Routt, Grand, Summit, Eagle, and Pitkin counties; parts of Saguache, San Juan, Hinsdale, and Mineral counties west of Continental Divide; part of Gunnison County excluding the North Fork of the Gunnison River Valley (GMUs 53, 63, and 521); and the part of Moffat County east of the northern intersection of County Road 29 with the Moffat-Routt County line, south along CR 29 to the intersection with the county line (including Elkhead Reservoir State Park).

Colorado September Teal Hunting Season Regulations

Teal-Only Hunting Period

  • Dates: September 9-17
  • Areas: Applicable in Lake and Chaffee counties, as well as all regions east of Interstate 25.

Harvest Restrictions

  • Species Limitation: Only teal species are permitted to be harvested during this designated early season timeframe.
  • Eligibility: Hunters may take teal throughout the entirety of other duck seasons, which includes the special youth, veteran, and active military hunt season.

Important Advisories

  • Hunters must specifically target teal during this special season and ensure they comply with the regional stipulations for areas allowed.
  • All usual waterfowl regulations, bag limits, and identification requirements apply, with an emphasis on hunters being able to correctly identify teal in the field before taking a shot.

Colorado Youth, Veteran & Active Military Waterfowl Hunting Seasons - Central Flyway

Northeast Zone Season

  • Dates: October 7 - October 8, 2023
  • Area: Located east of Interstate 25 and north of Interstate 70

Southeast Zone Season

  • Dates: October 21 - October 22, 2023
  • Area: Encompasses regions east of Interstate 25 and south of Interstate 70; this includes all within El Paso, Pueblo, Huerfano, and Las Animas counties

Mountain/Foothills Zone Season

  • Dates: September 23 - September 24, 2023
  • Area: Stretches west of Interstate 25 and east of the Continental Divide, excluding El Paso, Pueblo, Huerfano, and Las Animas counties

  • These special hunting days are reserved exclusively for youth hunters, veterans, and active-duty military personnel.

  • Area: West of the Continental Divide, excluding the Eastern Zone

Eastern Zone Special Season

  • Dates: September 23-24, 2023
  • Area: Covers Routt, Grand, Summit, Eagle, and Pitkin counties; sections of Saguache, San Juan, Hinsdale, and Mineral counties west of the Continental Divide; areas in Gunnison County excluding the North Fork of the Gunnison River Valley (GMUs 53, 63, and 521); the part of Moffat County east of the northern crossroads of County Road 29 with the Moffat-Routt County line, stretching along CR 29 to where it meets the county line again (inclusive of Elkhead Reservoir State Park).
