Understanding Florida Fishing License Requirements and Fees

License and Permit Fees

Established by the Legislature: The fees for licenses and permits, including the cost of issuance by agents, are determined by the Florida Legislature.

Where to Purchase: Licenses and permits can be purchased at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com, through the toll-free number 888-FISH-FLORIDA (347-4356), or at county tax collectors’ offices and license agents.

Immediate Use: Purchases made online or over the phone can be used immediately, facilitating last-minute fishing plans.

Additional Costs: Handling fees apply to all internet and telephone sales. Note that all license sales are nonrefundable.

Licensing Based on Target Species

Species-Specific: The licensing requirements are contingent on the species of fish being targeted, irrespective of the fishing location.

Exemptions and Contributions

Exemptions: For specific fishing license exemptions, refer to the Bag & Length Limits section. However, even those exempt from requiring a license are encouraged to purchase one as a means to contribute to fishery conservation efforts.
