NH Recreational Saltwater License


  • $11 for both N.H. residents and nonresidents.


  • Licenses can be purchased online or through any of 200+ N.H. license agents statewide.

Who Needs the License?

  • All individuals aged 16 and older engaging in recreational saltwater fishing in New Hampshire's coastal and estuarine waters.
  • This includes anglers, spearfishers, and those using other gear types for personal use (not for sale).


  • Fishing from a licensed charter or party boat exempts individuals from needing the recreational fishing license.
  • Persons with Lifetime Fishing or Combination Licenses obtained before 2011 may apply for a Limited Annual Saltwater License for specific fish species.

Angler Reciprocity

  • N.H. resident anglers with a valid Recreational Saltwater License can legally fish in tidal and estuarine areas of Massachusetts and Maine.
  • Reciprocity is granted in N.H. for nonresident anglers with valid Maine or Mass. saltwater licenses.

Charter and Party Boat License


  • Charter boat: $51
  • Party boat: $101

Who Needs the License?

  • Required for vessels hired by individuals for recreational saltwater fishing, including the taking of marine finfish for personal use.
  • Charter boats carry 6 or fewer passengers for hire, while party boats carry passengers for hire under a valid Certificate of Inspection.


  • N.H. law grants reciprocity for Maine and Massachusetts licensed charter and party boats, subject to reciprocity from those states.

Note for Operators

  • Operators with a N.H. charter or party boat license are exempt from needing a N.H. Guide License under certain conditions.
